Currently, another large-scale and very important project of the Company in Samarkand region is underway. A big construction team of Enter Engineering, consisting of 449 workers and specialists and 92 units of heavy equipment are involved in construction of vertically integrated complex for production of mineral fertilizers in the town of Khimiki, located in the Pastdargom District of Samarkand.
Ferkensco Management Limited is a customer of this Project. The aim of the project is to construct environmentally friendly chemical complex based on JSC Samarkandkimyo for production of monoammonium phosphate (MAP) with capacity of 370 thousand tons per year and nitrogen-phosphate-potassium fertilizer (NPK) with capacity of 540 thousand tons per year.
The construction site area is 46 ha. The Company is responsible for erection of the corresponding sulfuric acid plants, including sections for smelting, sulfur combustion and conversion of sulfur dioxide, drying and absorption, heat recovery, a circulating water-cooling station, and a tank farm for sulfuric acid storage. Phosphoric acid plants are also under construction: sections for reaction, filtration, wet-process phosphoric acid concentration, water-cooling station and acid production equipment, phosphoric acid tank farm, phosphogypsum removal system. The following will be constructed for the granular MAP production: ammonia evaporation unit, ammonia unloading unit, ammonia tank farm, conditioning mixture unloading site, granulation and drying section.
In addition, the Project includes the construction of a thermal power plant to generate power and fully cover the need for electricity, for start-up boiler house, Utilities and Off-sites (U&O) — central engineering building, compressed air station, chemical water treatment plant, packaged transformer substation, water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, raw material handling facilities, raw material storage, products storage and shipment facilities, spur tracks, checkpoints, sewerage pump station, automatic gas filler, weighbridges, etc. Motor roads, gas pipeline and two water lines will be constructed in terms of external infrastructure improvements.
According to Ravshan Isayev, Director of SCC project management office, this project is strategically important for further development of the country’s economy, particularly agriculture.
“Following the start-up of the facility, the products produced here will be used in the domestic market, but with the prospects of exporting to the countries of Central Asia, Europe, as the production by the chemical complex is planned to be included in 25% of the world’s producers with minimal costs, said Ravshan Isayev. It is expected that the new complex will be focused on production of fertilizers, in particular, ammonium sulfate fertilizers, such as nitrogen-sulfur mineral fertilizer in easily digestible form, urea fertilizers, such as nitrogen-based fertilizers, melamine fertilizers, which is a base for high-quality polymeric materials and fillers and phosphorus-based fertilizers — multipurpose complex fertilizers.
Phosphoritic concentrate will be supplied from the new Central Kyzylkum field in Navoi Region. The Chemical Complex will receive ammonia first from Navoiazot, and then from the new Yangiyer complex in the Syr Darya region. Additional volume of sulfuric acid will be received from Almalyk MMC. Provision of several hundred new jobs is another significant advantage.
At the current stage 40.64% pits have been excavated, 20.13% concrete works have been performed. It is a really large-scale project: the length of process pipe racks is more than three kilometers, the capacity of ammonia unloading units allows general unloading 8 railway tanks, 22 ammonia reservoirs of 200 m3 each, a warehouse for solid sulfur is capable to unload 6 open railroad freight cars simultaneously, etc. The works are organized on a rotational basis. All necessary living conditions and amenities have been created for workers, which contributes to efficient and high-quality construction activities. The mood and enthusiasm of our employees is commendable, and at this rate we will definitely complete the Project successfully”.
