Make work safe
In the summer months, the pace of work on Enter Engineering projects does not decrease. At the same time, the issues of preventing accidents related to the presence of employees in the open sun, which are handled by specialists of the HSE department of the company, become relevant.
We talked with occupational health and safety specialists (OH&S) about what preventive measures are being taken to preserve the health of people on construction sites during the hottest time of the year.
"Creating safe working conditions for employees is a direct responsibility of the employer. Therefore, during the summer period, we monitor compliance with the basic rules. The first is to wear clothes that protect you from the sun. We make sure that all employees have a long-sleeve top and a headdress. The second is to drink a lot of water, and it should not be raw water, which can cause gastrointestinal infections. We usually offer tea to employees. The third is to organize work indoors, if possible, but not in direct sunlight. The facilities that I supervise are located mainly in Tashkent, and it is easier to comply with these requirements in urban conditions than on open construction sites," Sadik Gadabayev, the chief HSE specialist told.
In the hot season, various chronic diseases worsen, high air temperature makes it difficult for the heart and respiratory organs to work and can cause heat stroke. People over 50 years of age and those who are overweight are especially susceptible to the negative effects of hypertension. Therefore, paramedics are always on duty at the facilities and regular first aid briefings are conducted in case of sunstroke, as well as first-aid kits are replenished, in which appropriate medicines are always available.
"Outdoor areas have their own specifics of working in the hot weather. For example, all sites are equipped with points for providing good-quality drinking water that meets the SanPiN requirements, the temperature of which is not lower than 8°C and not higher than 20°C. Periodically, its composition is analyzed according to a specially developed schedule. All employees are provided with summer clothes and shoes. The higher the physical load of the staff, the more difficult it is to work in the heat, so we have developed short-term rest breaks. And when the outdoor temperature is above +50°C in the shade, regardless of the wind speed, outdoor work stops. Dust suppression is also organized on intra-object roads according to the schedule. And medical supplies for first aid in case of snake and insect bites are always available in the first—aid kits of medical workers," Mukhsin Ashurov, the chief HSE specialist at the MOF-3 project noted.
We would like to wish all the specialists who are responsible for maintaining the health of the company's employees, good work and the absence of accidents.
